PMOS/PCOS & Hormonal Hair Growth

A permanent solution for hormonally-driven hair growth. Genuinely permanent, not merely reduced.

Name update, May 2026: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) has been officially renamed Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) by a global coalition of 56 patient and professional organisations, published in The Lancet. The new name better reflects the condition’s true nature as a complex hormonal and metabolic disorder. Both terms are used on this page as many will still be familiar with the previous name. For further information: NICE (nice.org.uk) and Verity UK (verity-pcos.org.uk).

Understanding PMOS/PCOS

Hormonal hair growth.
Permanently addressed.

PMOS (formerly PCOS) is a lifelong hormonal and metabolic disorder affecting around 1 in 8 women worldwide. Elevated androgen levels can cause significant hair growth on the face and body, known as hirsutism, typically on the chin, upper lip, cheeks, neck, chest, and abdomen.

This hair growth is not caused by anything you have done. It is a direct hormonal response at the follicle level. And it is something electrolysis can permanently address.

How Electrolysis Works for PMOS/PCOS

Permanent.
At the follicle level.

Electrolysis works by delivering a precise electrical current directly to the base of each individual hair follicle, permanently destroying the cells responsible for producing that hair. Once a follicle is correctly treated, it cannot regrow hair, regardless of any hormonal activity elsewhere in the body.

This is what makes electrolysis uniquely effective for PMOS/PCOS-related hair growth. While hormones may continue to stimulate other dormant follicles over time, every follicle that has been treated is permanently gone. Each session creates real, cumulative, permanent progress.

Over the course of treatment, the total number of active follicles reduces permanently, and with it, the hair itself.

What Treatment Looks Like

Honest.
Realistic. Permanent.

PMOS/PCOS-related hair growth often covers multiple areas and can continue to develop as new follicles are activated hormonally. We will always be honest with you about this at your consultation, treatment takes time, and timelines vary between individuals.

What we can promise is that each follicle we successfully treat is gone for good. The hair that has been treated does not come back. Progress is real and cumulative, even when it feels slow.

We also work with clients on facial and body areas simultaneously, and offer Intensive Sessions for those who want to accelerate progress.

Preparing for Treatment

What we need from you
before you start.

Electrolysis works on hair that is present in the follicle. Before and during your course of treatment:

  • Stop plucking, tweezing, waxing, and using depilatory creams on areas being treated, these remove the hair from the follicle, making it untreatable
  • Shaving or trimming between sessions is fine and will not affect your results. Please allow the hair to grow to at least a quarter of an inch (about 6mm) before your appointment so it can be treated effectively
  • Please disclose your PMOS or PCOS diagnosis at your consultation so we can plan your treatment appropriately
  • If you are on hormonal medication such as the pill, HRT, or spironolactone, please let us know, this does not prevent treatment but helps us set realistic expectations
★★★★★

"I have quite severe PCOS (PMOS now) induced hirsutism which I'm self-conscious about, but Minhal has been brilliant at making me feel comfortable… I wish I'd done this years ago."
